”Sesame Street,” as many already know by now, was preparing to open its 41st season with a celeb guest appearance from Katy Perry. The show is known for the celebrities that come on it, that means Perry, as it is a popular kid’s show. She would are one of them if the racy music video with the “Street’s” Elmo hadn’t been edited at the last minute. Elmo was asked about it. He had his thoughts.
Elmo appears on ‘Good Morning America’ with George Stephanopoulos
Elmo defended his new friend according to the newest York Times. In addition to “Sesame Street” Executive Producer Carol-Lynn Parente, Elmo and Grover – nay, Super Grover – appeared before a national television audience made up of the kind of adults who felt that Katy Perry’s mostly-covered breasts posed a danger to their tender kids.
The questionable scene revolved around a play date between Elmo and Perry. She wrote a parody of the pop hit “Hot ‘N Cold” for the episode. You can find it on YouTube fairly effortlessly. Perry feigns mock disappointment because she is ready to play, however Elmo isn’t really interested. The dress up clothes she has on are what many consider too revealing. This is what has caused such extreme controversy amongst parents. This has given Puritanical members of the extreme right a “cause” to caterwaul against.
Parente seems ’surprised at the volume of disapproving responses’
Parente told Stephanopoulos that “Sesame Street” would “never, never produce anything that we thought was inappropriate.” They booked Katy Perry in an attempt to get younger parents to become part of the audience base of “Sesame Street.” The production team decided it was something that needed to be scratched after enough complaints came in about how inappropriate it was for a children’s show.
For his part, Elmo reached out to Perry, saying that he hoped she would come back to “Sesame Street” for a play date.
He explained that “Elmo loves Miss Katy.”.
Those who complained are made fun of
Super Grover decided to play a part in making fun of the conservative parents. He asked Stephanopoulos his opinion on his costume he was wearing. He then said very easily, “It is not too revealing, is it?”
